Jatavia Shakara Johnson, better known as JT, is shaking up the rap scene with her fierce lyrics and dynamic style. Born on December 3, 1992, in Miami, Florida, she grew up navigating the neighborhoods of Carol City and Liberty City. From an early age, JT faced challenges, especially when her mother was incarcerated, leading her to live with her father and stepmother. Feeling like the black sheep of the family, she found solace in music and her siblings, laying the groundwork for her future career.

As a child, JT was part of a rap group called The Protegees with her siblings. However, it was her friendship with Caresha Brownlee—better known as Yung Miami—that truly launched her into the spotlight. The two became inseparable, and in 2017, they decided to channel their talents into a rap duo, City Girls. Their debut track, “Fuck Dat Nigga,” went viral after its release on SoundCloud, leading to a signing with Quality Control Music.

Before fully diving into her rap career, JT studied Fashion Merchandising and held various jobs, from the Miami Seaquarium to Whole Foods. After building a solid foundation as one half of the City Girls, JT took a bold step into solo artistry in 2023. Her debut single, “No Bars,” was released in July, marking a new chapter in her career. She also made waves with her feature on Summer Walker’s “Ex for a Reason,” which reached the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100. In February 2024, she dropped “Sideways,” debuting at #7 on the Bubbling Under chart.

With her solo career picking up steam, JT announced her first solo tour in March 2024, kicking off in Houston and wrapping up in Kansas City. She teased her upcoming mixtape, *City Cinderella*, set for a July release, and released a catchy single, “Okay,” which peaked at #74 on the Billboard Hot 100. An extended version of “Okay” dropped soon after, featuring a remix with Jeezy that had fans buzzing.
