Coi Leray Collins, born on May 11, 1997, in Boston, Massachusetts, is an American rapper and singer who’s been making waves in the music scene since she burst onto the scene in 2018. She’s the daughter of rapper and media mogul Benzino, which certainly gave her a unique perspective on the music industry from an early age. Growing up in Hackensack, New Jersey, Coi has five brothers, which definitely adds to the lively atmosphere of her childhood!
Coi’s musical journey started when she was just 14 years old, inspired by her father. Her first songs, like “Bow Down” with her brother Taj, made their debut on YouTube, but it wasn’t until 2018 that she really found her footing with her debut mixtape, *Everythingcoz*. She quickly caught the attention of Republic Records, leading to her second mixtape, *EC2*, in 2019. The single “Huddy” from that project marked her breakout moment, and she was soon featured on the soundtrack for *Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse*!
By 2021, Coi was making headlines with her hit “No More Parties.” The remix featuring Lil Durk propelled it into the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, earning double platinum certification! She followed this success with “Big Purr (Prrdd)” featuring Pooh Shiesty, which also made it onto the Billboard charts.
Fast forward to 2022, and Coi teamed up with the queen of rap herself, Nicki Minaj, on the catchy track “Blick Blick.” That same year, she released her debut studio album, *Trendsetter*, showcasing her versatile style and lyrical prowess. Coi’s single “Players” not only peaked in the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 but also became her first solo platinum-certified hit! Talk about a game-changer!
In 2023, Coi continued to ride her wave of success. She collaborated with David Guetta and Anne-Marie on the upbeat “Baby Don’t Hurt Me,” which made a splash on the UK Singles Chart. Also in 2023, she dropped her highly anticipated second studio album, simply titled *Coi*.
Coi’s rise hasn’t been without its challenges, though. She’s faced viral moments that sparked social media buzz—like performing for unresponsive crowds—yet she always bounces back with even more energy. She’s even made her television debut, performing on *The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon*, and is starring in the Whistle series *Coi Vs.*
With her infectious energy, catchy hooks, and a knack for collaboration, Coi Leray is carving out her own space in the hip-hop world, and fans can’t wait to see what she does next!
